Government Official States MoD Investigating Security Risk from Vehicles from China, as Staff Instructed to Avoid Confidential Discussions in Cars.

An defense minister has stated that the MoD is currently looking into the potential threats associated with Chinese-made vehicles, while personnel have been instructed to refrain from talking about secret information in any cars.

Safety Advice for Defence Staff

In a recent appearance on a radio station, Luke Pollard commented on reports that Ministry of Defence officials have been instructed not to talk about secret information while travelling in Chinese cars.

He said that the MoD is “examining” Chinese vehicles within its fleets, however stressed that security is a issue in all contemporary vehicles.

We have a fleet of tens of thousands of cars in the Ministry of Defence and Chinese ones account for a tiny fraction.
But whether you’re traveling in a Chinese car or a car from another country, our instruction to our staff is not to plug MoD technology into their vehicle, not to have conversations at a classified level in any kind of vehicle, due to the increasing threats of surveillance that exist in all automobile, to restrict those confidential conversations in secure locations. This is a wise and reasonable thing for everyone concerned about security.

After it was put to him that it would be prudent for the ministry to stop using all cars from China, Pollard responded: ‘That’s exactly what we’re investigating at the moment.”

Broader Defence Background

This revelation follows claims from Scandinavian countries have alerted the UK to the presence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese buses, which could enable China to switch off public transport and bring chaos to public transit.

Furthermore, a Russian spy ship was reportedly shining laser beams at Royal Air Force pilots, described as a “highly dangerous” action by government representatives.

The wider defence situation underscores the significance of strong measures and caution in all aspects of government operations, from transport use to communication practices.
